The ADOR1 DOES NOT NEED solar panels, DOES NOT NEED expensive rechargeable batteries, and DOES NOT NEED electric chargers because it runs for AT LEAST ONE YEAR on a cheap 6 volt lantern battery. This offer includes your first battery, but when you need a replacement battery you will find it at Walmart for less than $4, or Sporting Goods stores, or your local hardware or department store and even grocery stores. The ADOR1 DOES NOT NEED to be programmed (there are things you can set, like time delays, but in most cases are not necessary). You do not have to keep track of the seasonal changes for the timing of opening/closing. The ADOR1 adapts to the seasons. Just install the ADOR1 and forget it. What a pain to have to remember to change the time on the door every few weeks! The ADOR1 uses an infra-red light detector and a special computer algorithm to sense the events of sunrise and sunset and open/close based on those events. There are user adjustments to allow some deviation from those times, if you want. The ADOR1 has a manual over-ride button, and it self-tests and indicates status on its LED display and/or its buzzer. It measures the amount of motor current which shall be indicative of the force that it experiences in shutting and opening the door — and if the current is too high, it reverses direction and tries again twice more. This allows for detection of something that is in the way of the door closing — perhaps a chicken, upon which it should escape after being squeezed a little. The ADOR1 is in its 11th year of production with many thousands in use by happy customers. It was designed here and is manufactured here in the USA by a company founded in 1981.
