Ford manual parking brake lever for 8n 9n 2n farm tractor
Here is a new product from ERGC Inc. It is a parking brake lever to add to your Ford 8N, 9N, and 2N models. It is only for the right rear wheel. If you are tired of fumbling around and not being able to reach your brake lock pawl to set your brake then this is for you. Simply push the brake pedal down and reach over and move the lever forward and release the pedal to set the brake. To release push down on the brake pedal and move the lever back and release the pedal. That’s it ! Pic 2 shows the lever in the brake locked position and pic 3 shows it unlocked with the brake free. Installation is very easy and I will describe it here. The best thing to do is soak down the bolt and dog bone clamping area of the actuator arm with some sort of penetrating oil and let it sit overnight before you start. Then the next day remove the bolt from the arm and tap a medium size chisel into the gap on the arm as shown in the pic to spread it open so that you can slide the arm over an inch or so toward the rear wheel. Now remove the cotter pin on the back side of the pawl and slide the old pawl off the pin. Slip the new pawl and lever back on the pin and replace the cotter pin. Tap or slide the arm back over against the rearend housing, install the bolt and you are done. Keep in mind that you should shut your tractor off in gear and DO NOT rely only on the brake being set before getting off the tractor. This new lever does NOT release by just stepping on the brake pedal like the original pawl. It was built this way for safety. Kids love to sit on Grandpa’s tractor or play on them when no one is around. If the tractor is not in gear and only the brake is set guess what happens if a child steps on the brake and then lets go.
