Atlas Craftsman 6″ Lathe 618 Spindle Lock Wedge Stop …. This item is for one high quality 3D printed plastic Atlas Craftsman 6″ metal lathe spindle stop wedge. This tool slides onto the bull gear on the spindle of the 618-101 style lathes with a backgear setup so that you can remove safely the spindle chuck without breaking teeth on the gear by wedging other things into the spindle to try and hold the shaft while rotating the chuck on or off. It must be slid on from the side because it is a precision fit to the gear for optimum strength and locking power. Lower quality versions with less teeth (this one has 17 teeth!!!) to grab the gear can be simply set against the gear….it’s not magic, the tighter the fit the better the tool……you wouldn’t buy a socket that was loose would you? This part has a very dense infill and many many teeth for added strength to hold the chuck securely even for stuck chucks. This part was designed and tested on an actual bull gear to ensure the highest quality fit and engagement. These come in red or orange color depending on what I have on hand. Craftsman Atlas 10″ 12″ lathe Compound Large dial 0-100 (Fits over ~1.0 dial)
The installation takes 10 minutes and looks good when finished. If your lathe looks similar to the pictures it will probably work. It must have the 1″ dials. This is a quality design that is very clearly legible and will stay looking good for many years of use.
